Order your soul to wait in silence

Order your soul to wait in silence.

 (Psalms 62:1-6)

Creative time and thought processes are important to me. The time I dedicate to this virtue is kind of a treasure that I get to enjoy now and then. But sometimes and more times than I would wish, life gets in the way.

When I feel that time is running short, when my to do list is as long as the line at the coffee shop, when dinner is left-overs because I didn’t find enough time to prepare a meal for my family, I take some time to reflect, to breathe, and to think.

When the laundry room door does not close because the pile of dirty clothes is spilling out into the hall, when you forgot to go to that very important school meeting, when the budget does not stretch as far as you need it to, when you finally had time to make a word search for the new business name and your child is sick and you need to run to the doctor instead. Has this happened to you?  Can you relate?

When your to do list included ‘write in my journal’ and it’s midnight and you have not gotten to it, when you have decided that a trip to the gym would do you good because your socks are getting too tight, when your perfect life is far from perfection, search for thoughts in the quiet of your space and pray. Meditate in silence. Turn off your phone, the news and the noise. We all need this. Order your soul to wait in silence.

My Soul waits in silence for God only... Psalms 62:1-5

Say no to distractions. Stay focused.

I know it's been months since my last post...but life happens between the lines, right?  This post is step number two on the series about Staying Steadfast While Living the Life of Your Dreams. So here it goes....

Remember when we had 3 channels on the TV and we had to actually get up to change the channel?  We are not there anymore.  Today we have hundreds of channels, a remote control in our hands, and we don’t need to move an antenna to find the third channel!  When the family wanted to watch a movie we had to drive a few miles to rent one or go to the theater!  Remember that? I'm giving away my age here!

Our kids don’t even know what we are talking about!  Talk about distractions.  This is not the information age it’s the age of major distractors!

With the world at our fingertips it’s hard to stay focused on the things that require a little more than pushing buttons or the wonder of touch technology.   It is a common belief that information is power but in reality, action is power.  We need to stop allowing the information overload to distract us and instead take action moving forward on whatever we have decided to believe is our goal.   Staying focused on the path means that we are purposeful about where we are headed and that no matter what happens, that specific goal will take top priority in our daily to do’s.  It means also that many times we need to say no to things that have no place in the plan we have drawn for our lives.  It means also that we waste not our precious time on the many things that attempt to steal our time.

Life Happens Between the Lines.

     By Jessica Johnson

So here is my first rule to Stay Steadfast while Living the Life of Your Dreams and the Real Life that Happens Between the Lines.

Believe in your dreams.

Our passion will be stirred not shaken as long as we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

We cannot under any circumstance forget what drives us, what is the inner core of our dreams.  Many times this means to remember what we wanted to do when we were kids, to return to that moment in life when the future seemed simple and approachable when we believed we could simply wish and, viola!  It would happen because we simply wanted it.  But as we grew we learned by cause and effect that the future is a little bit less simple and approachable. Sometimes it can be more like bull riding, or like running with the bulls, or sometimes like being the bull in a bull fight.

It helps me so much to learn about people that started by believing in their dreams, acted upon them and now they are great examples that we can read about.  Although the pictures of their lives are perfect I believe they have a life similar to mine where chaos becomes beauty and feeds our souls.  It gives us the exact measure of experience to pour into our art, our dreams, our paths, and the lives of others.  When this happens that’s when we can see that light at the end of the tunnel.  The beautiful stories and examples are the result of going through life’s trials with dreams to guide you.
